Don’t say VESTIR – Learn Brazilian Portuguese

Last week, one student of mine said the following sentence:

Ricardo, eu não suporto VESTIR máscara. (Ricardo, I can’t stand WEARING a mask).

I understood what he said, but the sentence is incorrect. We don’t use the verb VESTIR in this case. Can you guess the correct way?

For this case, we use the verb USAR.

So, the correct sentence is: Ricardo, eu não suporto USAR máscara.

We use VESTIR (to dress) with clothes, but not with accessories.

So…

Eu estou usando um boné.

Eu estou usando luvas.

Eu uso pulseira.

Eu uso óculos.

Eu estou usando uma máscara de tecido.
